  1. Because they don't really care how I'm doing. It's just a way of saying ' hi '...

  2. It bothers me and gets on my nerves because when they ask me it, they are in the hockey section, asking off-topic questions.

  3. The only time it ever bothers me is when I'm depressed or angry. They ask and then I'm forced to be polite and respond, "I'm fine how are you?" when I really want to scream or cry. I know they didn't ask to REALLY hear how I'm feeling so I can't use it as an opportunity to vent which makes me more frustrated. - But thats just me.

  4. I once worked in a building of about 500 hundred people.  Eventually you got to know everybody.  Walking from the parking garage to your office, you would be greeted by at least 20 people.  When people would say, “How are you doing today.”, it would slow down the process of getting to your office, because you were REQUIRED to politely respond, “Great, How are you doing?”……and all off this while walking past each other.  Finally, one day, I came up with the solution.  I would respond by saying, “I’m doing great.  What’s shak’in?”  It was amazing how people really don’t know how to respond.  Eventually, people slimmed down their greetings to me by saying, “Hello there!”
