Why does wine, champagne, or any glass - bottled alcohol doesn't freeze while it is on the freezer?

  1. Wine, champagne and beer will.

    Liquor won't.

    Ethanol's freezing point is much lower than waters.

    Wine, champagne and beer have enough water in them that the freezing point is just below 32F...actually around 16F.

    Liquor being roughly 40% alcohol has enough ethanol that the freezing temp is somewhere around -114...your average fridge is only -18 at best.


  2. Alcohol has a lower freezing temp than other liquids, and the more alcohol there is in a drink, the longer it wil take to freeze. I know many people who keep their Crown Royal in the freezer all the time and it will not solidify, but it is better when it's freakin' cold.
