(sorry I don't know what catigory to post this question under... I hope this is the proper catigory...)

I was watching an episode of Mythbusters about if yawning is contagious… apparently it is, by the end of that segment I looked like I had been crying from yawning so much!

So why does yawning make your eyes water?

  1. yawning is a sign that you are getting tired and when you get tired you eyes start to water

  2. When you yawn, you contract the muscles of your upper jaw and face. These muscles are close to your tear glands and ducts and the pressure that they put on these structures squeeze out some tear into your eyes and make your eyes watery.

By the way, yawns are not "contagious" but just a reminder to others to take a deep breath.
