Why does your body (joints & such) ache when you have a fever?

I know lots about fevers and their maintenance having just recovered from salmonella poisoning, a sinus infection & a wicked cold in a span of three weeks. What I can't find is a good explanation of why things ache when you have a fever. Is it because the fluids in your body are, to an extent, "heated" causing a reaction? I find that joint pain (and dry mouth) often precede a fever. Thanks for your input.

  1. Don't quote me but I believe it's because when you are sick. Your white blood cells activate and attempt to fight off the sickness. However it also releases chemicals called cytokines which cause a reaction of body aches and fevers
