  1. Not to alarm you, but my 10 year old dog started sniffing her pee daily about 1.5 months before she was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. Maybe they do it as some sort of self-diagnosis. Studies have shown that some dogs (and some other animals) can locate cancer in humans by smell.

    If your dog has always done it, it's probably a habit. However, if she is doing it now and never has before, there's no harm in getting her a check-up.
