Why does your voice sound different when heard than when it's recorded?

I hear my voice differently when recorded onmy camera than when I hear it. And when I talk I have a good singing voice but when I record it on my camera it sounds awful..

  1. thats exactly what i am wondering too, but everytime i ask someone the always seem to say that, that is how o actually sound.

    weird.


  2. When you hear your own voice, you are hearing it through the air and the bones of your skull (as the sound travels to your middle ear), as opposed to others, who hear your voice in only air. Thus, your voice sounds differently to you than to others. A recording more accurately reflects the voice that other people hear from you.
