Why doesn't Britain have a national police force?

I know we’ve got various agencies which have jurisdiction, SOCA, CNC etc but why is there no one large national police force like in every other European country - they also have a military police (gendarmerie). British forces are regionalised but why is there no one force which oversees them all to solve nation wide crimes etc

  1. I agree. We need a police force with more muscle and a larger network.

I do think though, that the Flying Squad is the British equivalent of the S.W.A.T...

PS: do you ever watch Police Camera Action or Street Wars? I am amazed with the amount of abuse that the average Copper takes from members of public whilst on duty. It seems they have lost their respect and control...

  2. It does,it's called the National Crime Faculty, nearest we have to the FBI.It's predecessor the Regional Crime squad were the most corrupt outfit and a national disgrace, the National crime Squad are the same people just with a different name.

  3. Scotland Yard, I guess they figure they would rather handle things on a local level only

  4. Cuz  U.K is too cold and snob

  5. Ask Gordon Brown

  6. We rely on Spiderman to look after us. We shipped him over from NY.

  7. It pretty much is a national police force. The whole UK is turning into a police state.

  8. Power crazed Chief Constables and inept councils won't allow it !
