Why doesn't China allow its players to play basketball internationally?

They only allowed Yao, Yi, Wang and Bateer to play in the NBA. I think their guards could use some playing time either in the US or Europe. Coach K of Duke remarked how he would gladly have Chen Jiang Hua at Duke. If China sent its players abroad, who knows what they can accomplish? Yao already proved doubters wrong with his NBA game.

as stated previously, China is a communist country. its citizens are not free to pursue their own interests. the government tightly controls every aspect of their lives. when a player is good, China locks up his rights early so that he will have a HUGE pricetag when the NBA comes calling. They also force the good ones to play for the national team, which is why Yao is breaking his neck to come back early to play in Olympics. even if he won't be able to walk in the NBA regular season, at least he will have represented his country.

The Chinese Government wants to make as much money out of these players as possible.

A player could leave China and play in Europe or the NBA but if the Chinese Government didn't give their permission, that player could be banned from entering China or arrested if he goes back. So a player could basically escape from China and play overseas if he/she could get citizenship somewhere else.

Because they are a communism country and everyone gets paid EXACTLY the same amount. The players are not allowed to switch because they are "disowning their country" and showing disrespect and will not be allowed back.

Well, they are communist, but I don't think it's because they're disrespecting the country. I think it all depends on how much money the player will make China.

There's a team in the ABA right now that consists of members of the Chinese Olympic team. However, they were kicked off the national team because the ABA team refused to make them report to training camp a year ago..it interfered with the season.

Just a mess in China.
