Question:

Why doesn't Japan do with Sevens rugby what India did with T20 cricket?

India is an Asian country with the largest cricket market. Japan is an Asian country with the largest rugby market. T20 is the shortest and fastest version of cricket. Ditto Sevens with rugby. India used their financial clout to establish a highly marketable T20 league(s). Japan should use their financial clout to establish a highly marketable Sevens (league). Now India calls the shots in world cricket and everyone takes them seriously. Ditto Japan if it follows suit with Sevens. I could help you guys if you wish!

  1. When would the league take place?

Players would need time out of their club and country schedule to play in Japan.

I just don't see how that would be possible or where the money would come from to pay them.

  2. You won't get the same rugby stars from the 15 man team as you would in the 7's.  Plus, if you watch the IRB 7's the crowd numbers are low anyway.  There is talk that Japan and the USA might join SANZA  and have a Super rugby tournament.  We will just have to wait.

  3. it would only happen if japan can put butts in the seats.

watching a sevens tournament week after week after week can get dull.

strong teams will almost always prevail. unlike cricket where anyone can win each week.

good plan but the execution would yield no return.

  4. Japan has already done "it"

But not cricket or rugby - BASEBALL

They are mad for the game, and WBC (world champions)

No one really plays that much rugby in Japan - it's all soccer and baseball. And why they h**l should the world's secound largest enconmey suport a sport they don't care for ?

India is cricket mad, Japan is not rugby mad.

  5. One, because of the grounds, two, because of the country and because it doesn't have a big Rugby 7s value in the worlds eyes, and three because The IPL got lots of money from all around the world. Rugby 7's is also funded but the IRB but because of that, rich former Rugby players or rich people who like rugby aren't as enthusiastic to fund it.
