i say that every time i play a new Mario game...i mean why is she ALWAYS getting herself into trouble? she's such a woman, she can't stay in her own castle and just knit or something...

worst is paper Mario for wii cause she got a spine and starting fighting her own battles and then she became this uber s***k and demanded more stuff from Mario....

Princess Peach has been living in the castle are her life and hasn't been exposed to real men. Mario is the first and only person to try and rescue her.  He knows that since he is a plummer, he can't get anyone else and since she has no one to compare him to, there is no competition.

Originally, Mario's first girlfriend was Lady Pauline, whom he had to rescue in Donkey Kong from the clutches of DK. Their relationship did not last long, and she was soon replaced by Princess Peach, Mario's new damsel-in-distress and primary romantic interest.

Mario has rescued Princess Peach multiple times since Super Mario Bros., often receiving a kiss as a reward. Although the true nature of their relationship is never revealed, there is evidently a mutual affection between the two characters.

There might be a new love interest when Mario rescued Princess Daisy in Super Mario Land for the Game Boy, where she kissed him at the end, however, she is also rumored in the Mario universe to be in a romantic relationship with Luigi.

Same thing could be asked about Link with Zelda. If Mario and Link have to risk life and limb to rescue them constantly, it's not worth keeping a relation with them.
