Question:

Why doesn't SF pick up a major player like Bay?

Their division is so weak and their pitching is in place so why not put some money out and try to get into the playoffs now. If they had a little more offense they might be able to close the gap in the west.

  1. I don't believe the Giants have what it takes to make it this season.  You're right, they are only 8 games out, but as far as I'm concerned, they are quite lucky to be.  Don't get me wrong, I like the Giants...but the D-Backs and Dodgers should be playing much better, and as the season goes on, I'm sure you'll see the Giants fall back further.

As much as I would like to see them on top of the division at season's end, I'm just not thinking so.  Landing Bay would be great...I like Jason Bay, and I think he's a heck of a ball player.  But what the Giants should do is start thinking about their future.  They got rid of one veteran in Ray Durham...they should start trading others away like Randy Winn and possibly Bengie Molina for some young prospects.  If they build around guys like Lincecum, Cain, Ortmeier and Velez, who knows how good this team will be in a few years.

As of now, they are kind of stuck in the middle.  Playing for now might seem like a good idea since they are only 8 games out...but they don't look like a playoff team to me.

  2. most likely they cant afford to pay bay, especially with zitos contract

offering zito that contract may be one of the worst moves in the history of baseball, if not all of the sports world.

and where would they put bay? they like lewis, rowand, and winn. they need an infielder with pop. get rid of vizquel and durham and youll be in better shape.

  3. Doesn't really make sense. Bay would improve their team but he wouldn't make them contenders. 8 games is a lot considering there are only 2 months left and the teams ahead of them are much more talented. I don't think Bay would be worth the cost of the prospects they'd have to give up.

  4. As bad as the Giants are, what good would it do them?  They are not going anywhere.  If not for the Padres the Giants would be the worse team in the worse division in baseball.

  5. cuz their not in the race

  6. The big thing is that they do not want to use the talent that they are developing for a player that is a short term rental at best, Bay is not going to carry them into the postseason, they need a lot of help and they are committed to the farm system right now, they are not going to mortgage the future for a short term fix.  The cost is too high right now for a lot of these guys, the Giants are sellers right now more than they are buyers...sorry but they have made the decision to look to the future and not focus on the present, if they thought they had a chance then they would have kept Durham in SF.

  7. They could, but they won't because San Fransisco is a bad team. Their is nothing they can do about their team.

  8. They have a plan for the next few years, and are going to stick with it now.

  9. Ya as a giants fan myself i believe they have a chance to win the division just because the nl west is very weak. I wish they would get one or 2 big bats in the lineup. The problem is zito is being paid almost 20 million a year and thats all they can afford. Imagine if they didnt have zitos contract, then they could sign a big free-agent power hitter. Can u imagine aramis ramirez and derek lee on the giants. They would win the division hands down.

In my opinion i think pitchers get paid way to much money cause they only start every 5 games. And the giants arnt able to trade for a big bat because teams are asking for lincecum, sanchez or cain, And the giants wont trade any of those pitchers.

As giants fans we will just have to wait and see these young players develop into hopefully great players for the future

  10. Because bay is going to Atlanta. SF can have Nady. Or somehow trade Zito for someone in Atlanta. Braves like to take anyone no team want this year anyway. If SF are lucky, they might get Texeira.
