I just noticed that their were no Scottish Olympic athletes and realized it was because they compete with Britain. Does anyone know why that is?

  1. Because Scotland isn't a full nation. Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland are member nations of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Compared to Provinces or States in some other nations, they have a great deal of autonomy in running themselves, creating their own parliaments, etc - but they have no autonomy outside the borders of the UK. All foreign representatives, which the Olympic athletes fall under, are handled as representatives of the United Kingdom, not as representatives of England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland.

Some athletes do bring their 'national' flag (Scotland, Wales, etc) as well, as a sort of way to differentiate themselves from England, since much of the world confuses the UK in general with England in particular, but this is not official practice. Just personal choice.

  2. Cuz England/United Kingdom/ Great Britain is a cheating state of biccchheezzzzz that's why they have so many different names

    ya digg?
