Since I moved to Toronto about a year ago this has continued to confound me- why, in a huge city like Toronto is there only 3 subway lines?? Then you've got cities like Madrid which are roughly the same size as Toronto with about 10x the number of lines. What is going on here with Toronto???

  1. Unfortunately, most cities in the US and Canada were planned and have developed to be automobile-oriented.  That's just the way they grew, and now they are so dependent on cars that a subway is too expensive.

  2. Building subways is not cheap or quick or convenient.  Apparently, the city of Toronto has decided they can do without additional subway lines.

  3. Maybe since Toronto has a pretty good streetcar network it doesn't need additional subway lines?

  4. You should see the subway lines in England and New York , Toronto's are nothing

  5. you are just now discovering that toronto is a world class sewer.

  6. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) expanded the subway line along Sheppard (Sheppard to Don Mills) in the year 2002. It cost more than 900 million dollars to build 4 stations ( Bayview, Bessarion, Leslie & Don Mills) and rebuild another one (Yonge & Sheppard).

It will take a big budget to further expand the lines, but plans are already in place for more expansions.
