The government has misled us into believeing that we have no voice in the government and policy of this country but thats not true this is a nation by the people for the people if you called your congressman and you senator and told them that if they dont pass a bill restricting gas prices to a certain percentage of minimum wage or else they would lose you vote and the vote of all you freind and family they would do what ever possible to stay in power and earn money for doing nothing

Because if we do nothing our economy is going to collapse, do to how high gas prices are, I mean how hard is it to see that because of high gas prices we can't just go out and buy like we used to ( president bush and his economic team couldn't figure that out.) so come on lets fight back like real americans.

  1. Because our congressmen have no legal backing to adjust the retail price of ANY item.  This is a capitalist society, and anyone has the legal right to sell anything to anyone who's willing to buy it, at whatever price the buyer is willing to pay.

As long as we keep buying it at these prices, they'll keep selling it to us, and keep raising the prices.

Our congressmen might be able to work to eliminate all of the taxes that we pay, but then the government would be missing all of that income, and our economy will be screwed in a different way.

The only way to effect the prices would be to make the oil companies feel it on their bottom line.  If we all REALLY stop buying gas, they'll have no choice but to drop their prices.  I'm doing my part by walking to work.

  2. You can go right ahead and tell your congressman that, but then you're congressman will educate you on the basics of economics like the first two answers said. Your congressman has a mind of his/her own and are not a waiter taking your orders.

  3. most Americans Don't want Socialized Oil.

  4. Because we live in a Capitalistic society which means free market.  If you don't like the price of gas stop buying it.  No one is forcing you to buy gasoline.

  5. Mostly because your idea won't work.  Price caps will lead to shortages.

Much of the world has higher prices than we do, yet they survive.

The U.S. economy isn't going to collapse on rising fuel prices.  It will collapse if we let whining nebbishes try to run the economy.

And if you don't like $4 a gallon gas you will be miserable by the time Barak's one term in office is over.  Gas will likely be well over 7$ a gallon when he leaves office.

  7. Because it won't work? And our economy is not going to collapse, so stop "fear mongering."

Jimmy Carter tried what this Democrat congress wants to do and all the gas companies did was stop producing gas. The result was the 70s gas shortage.

  9. Interesting question

The answer is. Oil is a global commodity. The demand for oil exceeds the supply. If you restrict the price of oil to a point where gasoline is now $4 per gallon, and the rest of the world is willing to pay $4.25. Who do you think is going to get the oil? The US will be outbid and the supply of oil sold to the US will dwindle to a trickle. Now, which do you think will collapse the economy faster 1/5 of the oil you now use as gasoline or higher prices for the gasoline you do use

  10. The government doesn't' sell gas, you can tell someone else what they must sell if for.  If you do, they will simply sell it too someone else.

We buy ours from the middle east, they don't care if we buy it, or Europe or china.  someone will buy it.

  11. If congress says that companies cannot charge more than X for a gallon.  And it costs X + 1;50 to produce that gas.  Guess what?  No one will sell gas.

    That's why.

  12. you restrict the prices of gas and you will not see any gas at your local gas station........they will not produce any, then what...you will be on here ranting again....price controls do not work.....,.maybe they should restrict your wages

  13. you cant just go around mandating set market prices for a commodity which is running out. it just will never work.

    learn some economics.
