  1. Because the suffix helps you identify which country the website originates from, making online stuff easier. So in my case (I'm in the UK), it's obvious to buy from amazon.co.uk and ebay.co.uk rather than the (American) .com versions.

The other reason is that if all websites used .com, we'd run out of domain names a lot sooner!

  2. I partly agree with the above answer, but there is more to it.

Countries are using there own domains for practical reasons. It's not true that other countries only uses their own domains though. I'm in South Africa and our home domain is .co.za , but we also uses .net, .gov, as well as .com and others (.org etc.)

I, personally, have a .com domain registered.

There may be a lot more to it, but it's a misconception that only USA uses .com. Although, when you register a .com domain, it is registered in the USA normally.

  3. .com stands for Commercial. The united states primarily uses this for the commcercial, then .net for other things. .gov for government affiliated websites and so on.

Other countries just use their country code. like you said because they created their internets after we created ours in the united states. Its just the way it was set up.

  4. actually the internet was created in the US, europe and the rest of the world like usual, followed joining into the network.
