Why doesn't fresno grow to the southwest?

its odd that a non-coastal downtown is on the edge of a city

  1. Yeah weird huh!


  2. Because the southwest part of town used to be full of stock yards and slaughterhouses.

    Not many people want to live on or near a former slaughterhouse.

    Also, that part of town has a lot of soil and groundwater pollution from industry.
