Why doesn't gin freeze when you put it in the freezer?

i have a bottle of gin in the freezer for months. cannot get it to freeze. how come?

  1. The alcohol lowers the freezing point of it to the point that it won't freeze, it's similar to putting antifreeze in your car's radiator.


  2. Alcohol can freeze, it's freezing point is -114 degrees C. Water's freezing point is 0 degrees C. The higher the alcohol content, the lower the freezing point. Generally, your average household freezer doesn't reach temperatures low enough to freeze anything over about 40% ABV.

  3. all substances have a different freezing/melting point, and vaporization point (evaporation).  the freezing point of alcohal is much lower than that of water.  u can freeze alcohal but it has to be much much colder. which ruins my dreams of having a corona popsicle.
