  2. There is really no such thing as "heat lightning". Heat lightning is just lightning that is too far away to hear. It is still like any other lightning bolt and still produces thunder, but you cannot hear it since the bolt struck many miles away.

It does.  You just can't hear it because it is so far away.  What you see as "heat lightning" is actually lightning high in the tops of thunderheads that may be as much as 50, or more, miles away, so that you are only seeing the tops of the clouds over the horizon.  These storms are so far away that the sound dies out before it gets to you.
