long story short, i can't watch movies on my television right now. i have been able to watch DVDs on my computer before, and now when it opens with Window's Media player, it says "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer." So i went to the site it recommended and it offered the decoder but it's 15 bucks! now what changed on my computer that it wont let me watch movies when it has in the past?

i tried using quicktime as well and it didn't work either.

  1. first try and do a system restor, Go to (start)--->accessories-->system tools-->system restor. and chose a date on the calender that comes up to a time your dvd  was working , dont weast your $$ on decoders,

    It wont solve the problem.

If that did't work all you have to do is reinstall the DVD softwear, you should have a CD that came with the PC, If you dont, just go to free down lode.com and find it.

  2. get a new computer and watch movies on it or wait untell it is on tv

  3. go to google and type codecs, you will get free downloads for it, or download a multi media player like ALLPLAYER ,it will play most movies
