I have a HL-DT-ST DVD RAM GH20NS10 dvdrw on my pc. I installed vista through that cd-rom so compatibility can't be the reason. Hardware can't be the reason because i booted ubuntu and burned a bunch of dvd's. This is the error i get listed under device manager:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

needless to say there are no solutions available. Please help!

  1. I have heard many people using updated firmware for the hardware being a solution, check the manufactures website for any firmware available for your ROM drive...
