Question:

Why doesn't my evaporative cooler make my house cooler?

I have a new evaporative cooler with 12" pad and 1 hp motor that is connected to my heating/air conditioning ductwork. It is a mastercool style cooler, but a different brand. My house has been incredibly humid since I got it (ranging between 65 to 80% humidity), and it rarely cools the house more than 10 degrees. Often, the house is hotter inside than out. I know it's not the outside humidity because everyone else's evaporative coolers are working fine. What could be the problem? Please help.

  1. your energy would be better spent on a window ac unit,it will cost you more but you will be cooler ,with an evaporative cooler you are limited to waters normal temperature ranges ,no real cooling there ,if it gets hot you won't be able to tell it's there..........tom

  2. You need to crack your windows a little bit when you have an evaporative cooler. It helps to move the air through the house, it seems to keep things cooler and then the air doesnt seem so heavy and humid. Have you tried this?

  3. Make sure each room is vented, an evaporative cooler pulls outside air into the house so the air in the house has to be able to escape. Air conditioners cool the existing air so this is not necessary. Also check your water pump in the cooler, sometimes they last a couple years and sometimes a bad one will die in week.

As far as the humidity is concerned, it will be more humid with an evaporative cooler, Air conditioners remove all moisture from the air but evaporative coolers actually add a little moisture raising the humidity.

    Good Luck!
