Why doesn't my gas pedal always work in my car?

Most of the time it doesn't give me any problems but sometimes I push the gas pedal down & even though the pedal's to the floor the car doesn't speed up or anything. It feels like it's in neutral. It also happens when in reverse. What's the deal?

  1. IV IT GOES VROOOOOOOOOOOM.  ITS TRHE TRANNY IF IT DOESNT. ITS YOUR ACCELERATOR LINKAGE

  2. What year and model?  You likely have a problem with the throttle linkage but without knowing what kind of vehicle you have, that's about as specific as I can be.

  3. Another possibility:

If it does NOT go Varoooooom.  It could be the throttle positions sensor.  This is true especially if it only happens after the engine is warmed up.  Old electronic components tend to act up when they get hot.
