Why doesn't my home brew beer react to salt?

I have always liked a little salt in my beer and everything I've ever put salt in has reacted with foam and a nice salty taste. I am now brewing my first home brew and just tried a sample to see how it is coming. I know it needs another week in the carboy and then two weeks in the bottles but when I added salt nothing happened. I had a hard time getting the two to mix with a spoon. Have I done something wrong or is this just the stage in the brewing process I need to get past?

  1. Nah, just be patient.  One thing to consider is that it isn't carbonated yet; that's why it takes 2 weeks in the bottle.  Your airlock lets the co2 escape right now.  The bottle cap keeps it in.  Perhaps this is the problem.  


  2. First off buddy dont s***w your beer up by exposing it to air until its done and even then dont aerate it at all.  Second off beer will change constantly until the final product so just be patient...

  3. Adding salt produces fizz in beer because it forces CO2 out of the solution. After a week in the carboy, the brew will be barely carbonated, if at all. Try it again after you bottle and prime it. It doesn't carbonate very much in the carboy since the carboy is normally designed not to build up much pressure.
