Question:

Why doesn't my new Natural Gas Barbeque fit on the outlet on my house?

We bought a new Natural Gas BBQ today and assembled it. I believe is natural gas for sure, the box says it is (we had the option of natural gas or propane, and both types had clearly labeled boxes).

When attempting to fit the Natural Gas BBQ's hose to the outlet on the house, it is the correct type, but slightly too small. The outlet on the house seems to be just slightly larger than the connector on the BBQ. Maybe an 1/8 of an inch or so.

This is a new house. Is there something we were supposed to do? Did the builder miss something? Please help! Of course, we were hoping to BBQ tonight...going to plan B!

  1. There are several different manufacturers of quick disconnect couplings and there are different nipple lengths to them as well. See if there is any manufacturers info or part numbers on the house portion of the quick disconnect and take that info to a HVAC supplier. They can probably supply you with the correct fitting. As a last resort the builder should be able to find out from the gas fitter who did the installation whose QD fittings they used.

  2. you need a adapter that steps it down i size lowes or homedepo may help on that oh also when you finish chech it for any leaks.....you can measur across the inside and finde one to fit

  3. Sounds like you got the Propane one.  Get the propane tank from a neighbor and find out for sure.
