Question:

Why doesn't my newly installed bathroom electric outlet not work?

I had a heater plugged into my basement bathroom a few months back when it was cold. I used it only for the short duration of a shower. The last time the heater stopped working and I unplugged it, removed from room. Someone else used the bathroom and reported that the electrical outlet did not work. Why, and what will it take to fix it? The circuit breakers in that area and others seem ok.

  1. the outlet may be bad. Try replacing it. Even if you don't do that I would at least remove the cover and confirm that there isn't any sign of a lose wire or arcing from wire to wire.

  2. Turn the circuit breakers off and on again.  Sometimes they will look like they are on but are slightly off.  Also check and see if the plug is piggy-backed with another outlet that might be tripped.  My sister's bathroom is wired with the basement bathroom so if the basement outlet trips it turns off her outlet.

  3. maybe the bathroom gods are mad at you

  4. Sounds like you have a GFC outlet.  It has a reset button on it.

  5. Is the outlet controlled by a switch?
