Why doesn't my wireless network connection show, and how can i fix it?

My computer was giving me problems, so I used the Operating System CD in the computer and redid everything. I just put the CD in, and it basically did the rest. When I did this, everything went back to its original settings. I lost all my stuff on the laptop, but that's my problem.

The major problem is that I have no wireless connection status. I did a file search and there is nothing about anything wireless. The wireless button on the computer isn't doing anything, as far as turning it on or off. The light doesn't even go on.

How can I fix this? Is there a CD that I should use or something? Thanks for reading!

  1. Questions: When you reinstalled the OS did you reformat?

Is the operating system specifically designed for the computer or is it "off the shelf". ... my guess is you deleted the software that operates you network card...

one more question ... is your network card internal or external

maybe your network card isnt configured to match with the requirement of your router... just shooting in the dark

  2. You need to reload the wireless drivers for your system.

When you do a system re-installation, the wireless adapter (and possibly several other items) are not automatically reloaded. Your laptop / computer should also have a Driver CD to help you with this task.  If not, you can go to the manufacturers website and download the drivers for your unit. HP, Toshiba, Compaq, Dell, Fujitsu, and nearly all other builders have the drivers available for download.

Once those are installed, your wireless will work again!
