He is a hero ,why isnt he honored with his own holiday?

First man to walk on the moon, this would be the next best thing since the creation of man.

  1. he's old. he's just a man who just went a little further than the last guy. man walking on the moon is a grea achievement?  it was a contest.  why not a contest to love one another?

  2. According to those who know him personally, he is a private man.  He never much liked publicity, even before he became a noted astronaut.  He does grant appearances and interviews, but not as many as his colleagues on average.

Conspiracy theorists have latched onto this behavior as some sort of handwaving proof that he's "wracked with guilt," or doesn't want to be roped into having to tell any more lies.  Unfortunately that's mostly sour grapes:  Armstrong naturally does not grant interviews to conspiracy theorists, and this cheeses them off.

All the Apollo crewmen have said at various times that they do not consider themselves heroes.  They were simply the most visible members of a large team of skilled people, all of whom collectively deserve the credit.  While it may be appropriate to have some sort of holiday honoring space exploration, I think it's inappropriate to single out Armstrong as the one invidual who ought to have one.

  3. He does not make many of them, but he does do them from time to time. He just does not like being in the public so much, contrary to Buzz Aldrin, who feels more at home there.

Also, he is still alive - it is a sign of very bad taste to create holidays or statues for living people.

  4. Because the more people have access to him the more he can be questioned by people who can tell when someone is lying.having fish eyes can help to a degree when lying but even that doesn't help Armstrong that much.A simple question like did you really spontaneously say one small step for man,one giant leap for mankind? He has a history of not being a one liner man,so why would we believe he came up with this great quote. It was staged.

  5. He does not like the publicity, and he did not do what he did for it.

As for the naming of a holiday after him, do you remember the furor created when the aircraft carries "Ronald Reagan" was commissioned.  it is considered bad taste to name a ship or anything of signifigance after a person still living.

He did a great thing, but I rather think the term "hero" is overused, just as it is for athletes.  The word "pioneer" might be more appropriate.

The idea that celebrities have some sort of moral duty to display themselves is quite moderm.  Leave him in peace: he is only two years shy of turning 80.

  6. The man is full of guilt, he does not like lying to the public more than nasa requires him to do so. Here is one of his cryptic speeches.

"remove one of truth's protective layers"

I feel bad for him, forced to lie for the good of the american people.

  7. Shy.

  8. because half the worlds population believe in the conspiracy that the moon landing was done in a studio. it maybe true?

  9. Neil Armstrong left NASA and took up a professorship at a university in Cincinnati and was on the board of several large corporations.  He did a few commercials for Chrysler back in the 70s but has limited his public appearances to a bare minimum feeling that it showed more class as should befit the title of the first man to walk of the Moon.  He resurfaced to sit on the commission that studied the Challenger accident.  He has almost always refused offers for public appearances.  He has said that he feels too much attention was given to Apollo 11 and that all the other missions were as important as the first to land.

    .

  10. I don't think he wants to be that famous.

  11. Not everyone wants to behave like today's 15-minute stars.

He was a military test pilot. By most accounts, they don't like bullshit. He did his job. He didn't do it in order to become famous.
