I know all people are "d people" are distinct, and that they live in different places....PALEEEZE! This is a serious question that I find intrigueing. Why it is that all the people in say a fairly big city seem to always manuever about in such normal (most always) portions... and why is'nt it that everyone, or just say most everyone in that "fairly large city", don't "coincedently" all decide to go to Denny's some Saturday morning for breakfast???

  1. People are herd animals. 90% of all people live in and around a very small area of land known as a city. They tend to listen to hype and do what they are supposed to do, like shop the day after thanksgiving, or go to the opening of a hyped movie.

Personally, I try to avoid those rushes. For example, I know that when Indiana Jones opens up, there is going to be a line around the block. The solution is to wait a week and then go.

The day after thanksgiving is mobbed with christmas shoppers. If you must give into the materialism of christmas, do your shopping on a different day. But honestly, its better to make your gifts. I love getting cookies and a card.

  2. Just basic statistics.   If there is, say, a 1 in 50 chance that someone will want to order a take-out pizza, you can work out within fairly strict limits how many people out of, say 10000, will want to order a pizza on the same day.  Basically, its a bell curve which drops steeply either side of 200.  So the chance of less than 20 or more than 500 is *extremely* small.

    .

  3. It's the strange thng about statistics. I have wondered about that too, and I know what you mean.

Another example that interests me. Every day on the roads there will be the same number of accidents happening approximately, so police, hospitals etc can predict how many customers they are dealing with. But these are all different people who had no intention of having an accident. They don't know in advance who it will be, but it will always be approximately the same number.

A few years ago I was membership secretary of a sailing club with 35 memebers. Every year at renewal time, between 7 and 9 people dropped out. I used to take in new members in advance because I knew there would be 7 vacancies. Again, statistics, but nobody can predict who it will be.

Weird if you think about it.

Like you movie example, it is always a predictable number. We all decide independently, but the same number always show up.

  4. Like you say , each and every one of us is distinct ... with our own preferences , work , life , schedule , etc . It is impossible for the whole residence of a town to decide to have breakfast in the same place , same morning .They stay in places with different proximity to the cafe A , for example , so they decided to visit cafe B , which is close . Some husband had their wives cook for them .Some students have theirs at school . Some bought it from vendor machine in front of their apartment ...This proximity problem + convenience + likes/dislikes contributes to the impossibilities of such occurence .

BUT  , it is possible if you are saying around 200,00 people visit a place for breakfast .

Take a look at this !

How many people visited McDonald for lunch per day ! Hundreds of thousands !

How many people watch the same movie per day !

    Hundreds of thousands !

How many people sat watching tv reports at the same time after a disaster occurs ?Hehe ..

    Hope this answer your questions

  5. Some years ago, just before you were born in fact everybody in the world had an overwhelming urge to use the toilet at the same time - of course there weren't enough toilets to go around and there was a shameful mess.

Since then the government programs our brains at birth to not all want to do something at the same time.

Sometimes their controlling computer stuffs up though and then you have tens of thousands of people all wanting to see a concert or a football match at the same time. But then the government agencies quickly hand out things call tickets which reset your brain and allow to to return to your normal pattern of programming after a few hours.

    Hope this helps.

  6. They all live in different places.

  7. because all d people r distinct

  8. Interesting question.

People have different things going on in their lives.  The market reflects the desire to do a number of different things.  The more options a community has, the less likely it is one particular store will be swamped.  If I want to go to Dean & Deluca to get some Arizona brand Arnold Palmer beverage and it's completely packed I come back another time.

  9. Who likes crowds? If I see the market is busy on payday, I shop later. We are not robots or compulsive 'gotta do it now' lemmings. Free will and sound judgment rule!
