My mom and brother live in pennsylvania for 3 years and has had statefarm since they live there. A few months ago my mom was in the hospital she had brain surgery and their statefarm coverage was cancelled since march. My mom is back home me and my brother (i don't live with them but there often with my mom being sick) was looking at the car insurance and realize that it had expired. My brother called statefarm yesterday and they told him that he needed to find another car insurance because they were not going to take them. We don't understand that reasoning there hasn't been any accidents and they would pay their payments on time for those 3 years. can somebody give me an idea for why they don't want to take them back

thanks in advance

  1. ...By law, they must disclose the reason for non renewal.

It may be for non payment and coverage lapses.Or maybe moving violations or accidents charged to her in the last 3 years. Or possibly, This company is no longer insuring in your state. In either case, the insured (not you, but mom) has a right to an explanation.

  2. Sure, a couple reasons.

Once you go 30 days with no car insurance, you're "high risk".  In PA, that means you need to go with Progressive or Geico or Infinity Leader, and pay extra for your insurance.

Also, during the whole health issue, it's highly likely that their credit score went down.  In PA, if you don't have at least a 550 credit score, you have to go with a high risk company.

They're now high risk.  They need to go to a high risk company.  State Farm isn't a high risk company.  Sorry.
