Question:

Why doesn't the American media speak out about China?

It seems like the American media gives a pass to China even though they repress citizens, allow sweatshops in their country, and make rural peasents horribly poor. All the media talks about is how amazing China has become with its economic reforms!

Why?

  1. The media is OWNED by multi-national and trans-national coporations and so no matter what, they are going to be in business.

If the AMERICAN public had the complete truth about CHINA and the realationship with the rest of the world,   We may very well see a BOYCOTT CHINA movement.  and Greed Inc.  doesn't want that, so the media is silent on the subject.

  2. Cos the price of everything in Wallmart would go up by 200 percent

  3. The mass media hates America. They will not do anything to make the USA look good. They want us to be communists just like China.

  4. Just wait the Olympics are done, now it is down to business! The media only speaks when people talk! China will talk loud soon!

  5. China get's it's share of criticism in the media.  The problem is that many of us Westerners lump all Asian cultures into one category.  I'm not saying that China isn't guilty of repression and that there aren't still some sweat shops in China, but the majority of those activities exist in some of the lesser known countries in Southeast Asia.

One of your answers mentions Wal-Mart.  I think many Americans equate Wal-mart and China with Sweatshops.  This is because of the Kathy Lee Gifford scandal of 1997.  What goes unsaid is that Wal-mart was the first American company to require its subcontractors sign a code of basic labor standards, and Wal-mart later was responsible for formation of the Fair Labor Association.

The media needs proof in order to report some sort of negative story about China.  Xinhau has been very effective in controlling the flow of information in and out of China. The notion that there is a world-wide power that controls the media and has an economic interest in making China look good is paranoid delusion.

  6. because they know in a few years China is going to be the number one super power in this world and they rather be on their good side.

Besides were do you think all the c**p we buy in the stores comes from???

  7. Actually, I'm living in China now and most of the Chinese I know feel that the American media is unfairly biased against China.  The American media certainly covered Tibet in great deal, and devoted a lot of attention to accusations of China's cheating in the Olympics.  I don't think the press particularly gives a free press to China.
