Why doesn't the Federal government print it's own money and practice fractional reserve banking?

  1. The federal government does print it's own money, and it over sees the banking system, including setting the reserve requirement.

    The US treasury prints currency in the US, and the Federal Reserve bank sets the reserve requiremnet.

  3. The Federal Government actually does print the money. But its only customer is the Federal Reserve, not the Congress. So it is at the discretion of the Fed on how much money shall exist in the economy. Along with the Fraction Reserve Ratio requirement imposed on Banks.

    Both control the money supply. One is direct, the other is indirect.

  4. Gremany tried that after WW II and experienced super-flation.  

    If we printed more dollars, dollars would become worthless.
