A constitutional amendment should be passed and ratified by the states that prohibits the sale, purchase, possession, and consumption of alcoholic beverages, including beer and wine.

Why can't the amendment be passed?

  1. I like a taste of the courvoisiey.

  2. Prohibition!

Yeah, your whole idea was already done years ago. It was a significant part of society and history. How did you not know that? Especially if you are adamant about it.

"Why can't the amendment be passed?"

Cause it already has been. Number 18 literally your exact definition and more. 1920 to 1933 Alcohol was a no no. What else happened in those days. The Great Depression. I just wanted to point that out. It always seemed a funny coincidence to me. Then it was repealed in 1933.

  3. You have too many lawmakers who drink and take drugs..  Also, there is the fact that most of the big brewing companies pay a lot of money through their lobbyists to keep laws in favor of their businesses.  And if you're expecting Americans to stop drinking dream on.  You won't be able to get them to give up smoking either.

  4. The Kennedys would be broke if it weren't for prohibition in the '30s.  Maybe we should try it again so ANOTHER family of crooked, misguided politicians can rise to prominence.

  5. I'm sorry.  I'm just floored by the idea that a person can ask this question without any apparent knowledge of Prohibition.

But even if we completely ignore the fact that all the things you suggest were tried 70 years ago and failed, let's just look at anti-drug laws.  We have been fighting the "war on drugs" since the mid 1950's.  Has it stopped the use of drugs?  Or has it simply given organized crime another way to make money while costing us as a country billions of dollars in failed enforcement costs?

    Legislating personal morality doesn't work!

  6. I sure hope this is a joke.  Google "prohibition 1930s america" and see what comes up.

  7. It would be great if they did. No DUI deaths, no trashy bars, no unwanted babies made on drunken nights, no parents spending all their money on alcohol while food is bought with food stamps. It would be a good idea but this like banning the murdering of babies will probably never happen.

  8. lol no people are fine with drinking alchohol a  lot of ppl wouldn't want to live if they couldn't have a little fun in life

alchohol helps ppl relax an get into fun relationships

weed is a life killer/dream killer alchoho isn't

  9. they tried it already it was a resounding failure and made Organized Crime super rich and more violent

  10. "Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it" - George Santayana

    It was tried, it failed.

  11. Hey Eric, didn't you learn about Prohibition?  It was repealed because it didn't stop drinking, just forced it underground. Part of the reason was because it made it illegal to transport it over state lines. but not against the law to actually drink it.  I think it was doomed to fail.

And anyway, why do you want to suck all the joy and fun out of life?  Next you'll want to outlaw laughter and jokes.

  12. they did pass it,thats what prohibition was, but it lead to alot of violence and mobsters

so they had to make it legal again

  13. Number one they already tried that with the 18th amednment. Number 2 it was an absolute failure hence why they repealed it. Just because you don't like alcohal doesn't mean people shouldn't have the right to drink it. Making it illegal will just create a black market for it is all.
