Question:

Why doesn't the Indy Racing League get alot of publicity?

I always hear about it on sports news and, on average, you typically see references to it's greatest drivers on shows and programs that don't have anything to do with motorsports than you see NASCAR references, other than Jeff Gordon and the Earnhardt family, of course. Why does the IRL seem to get alot less publicity?

  1. I think its because of the split between CART and the IRL.  I think a lot of the fans went to stock car racing.  But now that it is all one series, hopefully we can get some more open wheel fans back.

  2. Well the biggest reason was the split back in the mid-'90s. Without another top stock car series, NASCAR could hype its field up as the best drivers in the world. The IRL and CART/Champ Car couldn't do that obviously.

  3. They have less publicity than Nascar because when the IRL and CART split into two separate series,NASCAR gained all the attention, but that could change with them back together now..........

  4. cause IRL suck and cant promote anything compared to nascar.

  5. The NASCAR sponsors seem to promote the NASCAR more than IRL sponsors.  The league itself let's the sponsors carry the load of promotion. You can't go into a grocery, hardware, auto parts store, etc. without seeing a NASCAR driver.  IRL drivers are not that widely promoted by their sponsors.

  6. I just think IRL needs to do more as far as publicity and promotion goes, I think they are waiting till Danica wins a couple more races then they think that will take care of it...I think next yr, and once they start getting back to having more than 30 entries...Come on IRL get it out there...Its fun racing and I like Nascar and Open wheel....Hey wheres the head Cheerleader Robin Miller dude come on stir up some sparks.

    Go Helio

  7. Honestly, there is little mainstream buzz amongst sports fans. It is essentially a niche sport with motor racing fans and will remain that way in the foreseeable future.

  8. Less money and less sponorship support.  You will see a plain white car driving around in IRL (John Andretti) while some Nascar drivers cant fit another logo or decal on their car.  Money is what makes the sport tick..

  9. I personally don't care for Indy or Open Wheel, but I do like Nascar perhaps for the same reason why it gets more publicity. Nascar is more entertaining. Theres alot more bumping, pit strategy, and personalities.
