  1. Kings are born; it they marry a queen, they become a nobility (I don't remember what), but not a king.  Philip is a prince at the request of Queen Elizabeth who asked Parlaiment to grant the title to him.  He cannot, however, ever be king.

A woman becomes queen when she marries a king, but she loses the title when the king dies.  In the case of Elizabeth, she inherited the title of queen, since she was the elder daughter and had no brothers.

  2. a ship that has two captains sinks.

p.s. elton's answer mentions that he is german, not correct,he is greek

  3. Do a quick search here - that question gets asked every couple of days.

  4. she is the monarch - by heredity.

he married into the family.   She could have granted him the title of king, but she didn't. She didn't even make him a Prince, but gave him a Duke ( i think.)

  5. The Queen is the reigning monarch;she was heir to her father King George VI.Since the reigning monarch is a queen,no one else can have a title higher than the queen's.The title of king implies the monarch(and is considered higher than "queen") so Philip has to use Prince Consort to reflect his status as husband of the reigning queen.

Philip is a royal in his own right-from Danish-Greek-German royal houses of Schlesweig-Holstein-

    Sonderburgh-Glucksburg,

renamed Mountbatten, and is a third cousin to his wife the Queen. His not being king has everything to do with not being George VI's heir and being husband to a reigning queen, someone he can not outrank.

And to make something clear: in order to marry the Princess Elizabeth,Lord Louis Mountbatten thought it would be very helpful for Prince Philip to become an English citizen.Philip, eventhough everyone knew he was a royal prince, was simply Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten when he married Elizabeth.King George VI,Elizabeth's very cautious father, created Philip Duke of Edinburgh upon the marriage in November,1947. Elizabeth,as Queen, returned Philip's princely title in 1957.He became Prince of the United Kingdom five years after his wife ascended the throne.

  6. I believe the title King or Queen is passed down by bloodline, therefore the spouse fo the King or Queen does not get the title.  I'm not sure on this though.

  7. In History class I was taught Even though Queen Elizabeth is Queen, She'd have to marry a Man born in England for him to be King (only natives can be King or Queen) Prince Phillip had his own chance to be King of a small eastern European country, but he gave that up to wed Queen Elizabeth.

  8. because he's really a woman and that would get very bad publicity

  9. He doesn't have it because he's not the reigning monarch. His wife is.

  10. The married partner of a British Monarch has whatever title the couple would both like, and Parliament will agree to. There are no other rules at all, so the various so-called reasons given by other answerers why "Philip cannot be a King" have just been made up.

In 1689, Mary II refused to become Queen Regnant unless Parliament agreed to her husband being titled King William, so they agreed.

In 1702, neither Queen Anne nor her husband (the Duke of Cumberland) wanted any special new title for him.

Queen Victoria wanted Albert to have the title of Prince Consort, and in 1857 Parliament eventually agreed.

In 1957, five years after becoming Queen, Elizabeth asked for Parliament to agree to Philip having the title Prince Philip, and they did.

So Philip does not have the title of King either because (1) he didn't want it, and/or (2) Elizabeth didn't want him to have it, or (3) they both knew that Parliament wouldn't agree to it. Take your pick!

  11. Because he wasnt born into the royal family, he married into it.  I think it goes that if a woman marries the reigning King.. she gets the honorary title of Queen.  Old fashioned rules right... woman doesnt mean anything... so who cares if we call her queen.  But if a man marries the reigning Queen...

Wierd rules, but hey thats England for you

  12. Wow this has to be one of the most original questions asked in this category.

  13. cause he's  a royal bitttch.

  14. Because he is not in line to the throne. If he were called King, that would put him over the Queen. The Queen is the rightful monarch.

  15. Because she is the leader.  If he was called "King" then it would be a superior title.  She inherited the crown from her father.

  16. he was not born to be king

  17. i guess may be because she got married after she had her title from her father, so she is the leader and if her husband were named king he would be the leader not her

  18. Prince Phillip is the Queen's Consort and husband. He is German and is her cousin. He cannot be King because Elizabeth, II  was crowned Queen after her father's death. Philip cannot be King because he was not in succession to the throne of England, but Elizabeth, II was due to her father. Had not her Uncle Edward abdicated, then he would have been King and then his heirs would have been in line to the throne.

Queen Elizabeth, II obtained the throne by accident. While her father died, his brother Edward would have been King had he not abdicated because of his relationship with Wallace Simpson, a divorced woman. He decided that being with her was more important that being the King. Therefore, Elizabeth, Il , Georges only heir by birthright of King George became Queen.

Contrary to beliefs, it is her Majesty's choice of her successor. She may choose Charles or one of his sons. It is the Monarch's decision who should succeed to the throne.
