Question:

Why doesn't the US stop playing Football and Baseball?

By the way, I have had big ten season tickets for a few seasons and live in one of the biggest baseball cities in the States. But Football has no future outside of this country and to market ourselves, we should play more popular sports. We will make more money that way and we could dominate them. Baseball is no longer an Olympic sport after this year. We have to focus on Olympic sports. China is going to overtake us, this is a national priority.

  1. cause we don't sell out. why would we care if china beats us at a bunch of crappy sports. football and baseball are american, what are you?

  2. dude what are you talking about KEN, assuming your japanese, you must have some grudge against china and korea right no offense, but you cant take away thousands of jobs because you want to be good in the Olympics? but didnt michael phelps win 3 straight gold medals, and i saw america won the gymastics gold, football and baseball is a HUGE franchise, they make tons of money, plus its much more exiting in my opinion

  3. I would rather enjoy what I'm playing or, watching than make money at it. it's sports(entertainment).

    I'm not an entrepreneur, I'm a fan.

if the rest of the world, wants to capture My imagination, they should develop some more exciting or, at least interesting sports.

SOCCER: BLAND, Grand Prix: BORING(virtually no passing or, rubbing)WHAT THE h**l IS CURLING ALL ABOUT?!!!

  4. football has ''value'' outside US because every1in Canada  i know is crazy about American/Canadian football .

we shouldn't stop playing cuz the sport are awesome.

  5. u must have never played football

  6. Because the United States doesnt care about other countries sports.  Look at basketball, no one else in the world cared about it until we put our pros in the olympics.  India loves cricket, china loves ping pong, japan loves Sumo.  It is what makes countries different.  We are winning the medal count and if you take into account that we have one fifth of the population of China and are still winning the medal count, we are doing pretty good.

  7. What national priority? olympic athletes are there to be in the spotlight and reap the rewards in money from sports gear endorsments and TV ads,

  8. $$$$$$

  9. "A national priority"?  The last I checked the Olympics was just games.  It's not like the winner gets the latest and greatest nuclear technology or a cease-fire in their country.

Also, who's making the money?  If you're referring to Olympic Sports, all of the competitors are amateurs (with the exception of Basketball, because the USA are complete b*****s and couldn't stand getting reemed by Eastern Europeans every four years, but that's neither here nor there) and thus cannot be paid and cannot even receive endorsement deals, so who would be making the money?  In fact where would the money even come from (of which you speak) if no one is getting paid?  I don't see a dime off of any sports played in America (professional or amateur).  Do you?  In fact, I think the only people who see money from sports played by our professional athletes, are the athletes themselves, the organizations they play for, the organizations that produce their merchandise, and the shops that sell them.  Convincing all of these people to give up their livelihood would certainly be easy would it not?  Who's to say we would dominate anybody?  See: "Blind nationalism".  Also as far as marketing our sports outside of this country:  do you really think anyone outside of the United States is going to buy soccer jerseys (or any other sport's merchandise) supporting American teams?  Do you think there going to be rushing to give us their money for worthless "American?!?!?!?!" merchandise when they have much bigger problems of their own and if they don't would probably choose to support their own teams?  So essentially the "market" of which you're speaking of regarding these Olympic-only (sport) competitors is essentially the exact same market as before.  Instead you want to rip out the infrastructure and replace it with an entirely expirimental national sports program designed at fending those damned Chinese off.  Cause God knows, if they beat us at the Olympics they're going to control the world.  Yeah, I heard that was up for grabs this year.

This is an entirely ignorant question and devoid of any sort of logical basis whatsoever.  Dumbass.  Maybe you should try going to college instead of just going to the sporting events.  In fact season tickets aren't cheap, you could probably sell them and get a pretty sizeable amount of money to put toward your desperately needed education.  Dumbass.

  10. Olympics ?? *****yawn**** bring on some smash mouth football.

  11. "We have to focus on Olympic sports."

So, let's all turn our attention to Badminton, rowing, and synchronized swimming?

  12. Here's a complete list  of the very popular Olympic sports that you are asking Americans to give up their cultural heritage to participate  in

How many Americans have played even half of these so -called sports ?

Honestly I am sick and tired of the pencil necked marketing geeks running the world .

I want baseball back the way it was w/o the needless and completely idiotic playoff system

I want football back the way it was w/o instant replay and with  defenses that are  allowed to  actually  play defense.

  13. I'm speechless. I really am.

  14. Well, money is more of a national priority than the Olympics, since the Olympics is just games.

  15. y would they.?

  16. dude we make way too much money to quit those sports

  17. ok, I'm not sure if you've noticed this, but America is "different".

It does not give a **** about what other countries think of it. People here don't think of places like "Africa" or "China" as an equal.

We don't care if China overtakes us or how the rest of the world views us.

This is the main reason everyone hates us.

  18. Wow - record gas prices, an illegal and immoral war, record unemployment, on the verge of the worst depression in 70 years, but winning more medals then China in the Olympics is a "national priority"?

Not everything that we do in this country needs to be popular outside of it. if you really look , a lot of countries have sports that they are fanatics about that are not popular in other countries. I don't see a lot of Aussie Football being played here, so I guess they should just stop playing it. And while people in Pakistan and India are crazy about men's field hockey, here it's considered a sport for school girls.

When both football and baseball are continuing to see an increase in attendance year after year, why should we give them up? Obviously people don't care enough about soccer to support it here regardless of it's popularity around the world. Do you really think that foreign tourists would all of a sudden rush to come to America to see soccer played if all of a sudden we decided to concentrate on it instead of baseball or football? Why is it so important that our sports be marketed to the rest of the world? Isn't enough to simply be happy that we have a number of great sports to support already? Or should we simply get rid of all of the money that is spent by football, baseball, basketball, Nascar, etc. fans in order to pursue world dominance in Table Tennis or Synchronized Diving just so the Chinese don't win more Olympic medals then we do?

Sorry - the Olympics just aren't that important. But if you feel that somehow we should get rid of football and baseball in order to become a world power in Badminton, please feel free to write your congressman. I'm sure Olympic success every 4 years will be REAL high on his list of things we need to deal with in this country.

  19. hahaha I just wanted to point out that no one person agreed with you. Not one... Oh including me!

In the future, it would be wise to think before posting questions like this.
