Why doesn't the USB cable on my Blackberry Pearl work?

On my New Red Blackberry Pearl, whever I plug my USB cable into the compu. Usb port, it will not let me access anything onto my computer to download onto my phone or take anything from my phone and put it onto my computer. Why is this? An also how can I resolve the problem!

I had the same problem... When you try to sync your BlackBerry to your computer, make sure you've got the software (cd-rom) that came with your phone installed in your computer... (You'll have an icon on your desktop entitled "desktop manager" after you install it) Double click the icon and  the desktop manager allows you to download pics, music, and all the ohter good stuff  from your phone to your computer...
