Question:

Why doesn't the media report on U.S. troop deaths in Iraq or Afghanistan anymore?

I hardly ever see it anymore in the papers or on the internet news outlets. You don't hear of war casualties either. It doesn't matter if you are for or against the war. These guys sacrificed their lives for our country. They deserve some recognition. Also, I don't like it when the media reports just numbers. Each of these soldiers had families and dreams of their own and it would be nice to see a little write up as to who they were as a person. When it comes to troop deaths in the war, it shouldn't even be a partisan issue.

  1. For starters, the number of deaths has come down lately, so one is less likely to appear on the day's news.

Second, story placement may depend on what's happening on a given day in a given city. If someone from Painted Post, New York, dies, it's going to be a big story. If that soldier is from New York City, it may not be quite as "newsworthy" and might not make the front page.

No doubt, though, that each soldier deserves a good writeup in honor of his service and sacrifice.

  2. The public became tired of the press trying to capitalize on our troop deaths.

News services decided to shut up.
