Question:

Why doesn't the "extreme weather" the world has been experiencing over the past several years seem to be...

opening any eyes?

Conservatives love to say that "look at the snow in China... global warming my ***". To me the issue isn't global warming, it is climate change.. and this climate change is causing extreme weather. The question is our contribution to the climate change, right?

  1. Weather happens last time I checked and many people living in the Midwest or prairie states usually say 'if you do not like the weather now wait a few hours'. What does this mean? that weather is not stable or constant no matter the time of year or years.  Cold in China during the winter? Warm during the summer? Seems about right to me but warmer weather in Winter? Sometimes. That is just how weather happens. Weather is a balancing act from one area to another that is called wind. High pressures balancing out low pressures and cooler area balancing out warmer areas and do not forget that celestial body call the freakin SUN. I am sure it has a lot to do with our weather.

  2. Just a few links to counter your supposition that  extreme weather is caused by GW. Believe it or not climate change is nothing new. It is the norm for climate to change. Our contribution is probably less than 15% of the actual temp change. Most of the contribution is from the sun.

  3. Climate change is a term invented so you can cover all of your bases.  Now you can blame any weather event on rising co2 levels.

Tell me the truth.  If the dust bowls of the 30's were to have happen today, would you have been convinced it was the result of climate change?

If extreme weather events are increasing, can you point to a study to says so?

  4. Because men are very ignorant and sinful. We cannot bring back time, so we must act... before it's too late. Not all men are ignorant, there are a lot of people who are concerned of saving the very planet we're living in.

  5. There is no data to show current weather is outside normal variance.  Historical records are not accurate or precise enough to figure out if today's weather is anomolous.  It is unlikely this question can ever be answered.

Cold weather in China, snow in Bagdad, etc. is reported merely to show how ridiculous pegging climate change to one meteorological event is.  So it can't be used to bolster AGW claims either.

Current temperatures are within normal variance of earth climatic cycles.  The earth has been warmer in the past, and cooler in the past than today.

2005 was a bad year for hurricanes striking the U.S. in cities with inadequate flood control.  Predictions that global warming would increase hurricane devastation in 2006 were found to be untrue.  Predictions from esteemed scientists peer-reviewed.

Raiding people's wallets for COLDER winters?  The evidence and data have to be a beyond reasonable doubt.

  6. Conservatives will be in denial until the coffin lid closes !

  7. eyes wide open here and not taken in by this AGW cr*p.

  8. The big Q. The big Answer:

I attended the Focus the Nation at Sierra College on 1-31-08. The event was the 2% Solution, a 2% reduction over 40 years to solve GW. Oil is a nonrenewable resource and we are running out-but not soon - $30 Gal for gas. The 2% Solution is ok for the USA for a 10 year plan to cut 20%. But over those 10 years, we have to be building renewable energy and about that time, we can cut an additional 20%. This should get us from importing any oil. We must have a pollution surcharge where we pay the real price (health effects, GW and cleanup) for oil, NG, coal, cigarettes, Cooling Towers, Cars, trains and airplanes. Humans have to put some of this nonrenewable into renewable energy like small hydro-electric dams, concentrating solar power plants, wind and wave machines, nuks, and geothermal. With the peak of oil in the 1970’s, peak NG in the 1990’s, having mined cheep coal, the peak of ocean fishing in the 1980’s, and the peak of uranium in the 1990’s, humans must stop procrastinating and make real changes to keep earth sustainable including in the energy debate, finance and regulation.

Many of mankind’s advancements cause earth surface to warm, destroy the ozone layer, kill off endanger species, heat cities, and in some way cause more dramatic destruction.  Blacktop and buildings (roads, roofs and parking lots-heat cities), deforestation (air pollution, soil erosion), duststorms (increase hurricanes and cyclones, cause lung diseases), fires (cause pollution, mud slides, and deforestation), refrigerants (like CFC's) and solvents (including benzene destroy the ozone layer raising skin cancer rates) and plastics; cars, airplanes, ships and most electricity production (causes pollution including raised CO2 levels and increased lung and other diseases); these human problems we must fix to keep life on earth sustainable! Humans have destroyed half of the wetlands, cut down nearly half of the rain forest, and advance on the earths grasslands while advancing desertification which increases duststorms.

The result is:  change is on the way, we just do not know what changes (where and when). Look beyond the hype, beyond the weather, beyond a quarterly report and beyond today. President Bush has made a choice of energy (ethanol) over food and feeding the starving people around the world; this is a choice China has rejected. The fact is Bush wants to buy your food to send to starving people since our grain is not available. Now what USA Presidential candidate is give you the facts so you can make an educated decision?

Over the next 90 years carbon dioxide is projected to skyrocket as human’s burn more fossil fuels. The problem is, the oil will be gone in less than 30 years at present rates of consumption without projected increases and shortages. We have to come up with what will take its place. Again we have to cleanup our mess. One of the big problems we have is at some time Yellowstone will blow its top again, as the magma move closer to the surface, creating a nuk winter. After that we will not have to worry about the destruction of the ozone layer, global warming or pollution.

But with that we must understand we have never seen what is now happening before. CO2 has never lead to temperature change, but temperature change has led to increases in CO2. The models have to be made as we go along with current evidence! But again adding a small amount of CO2 to the atmosphere enlarges the earths sun collection causing warming; increase water in the atmosphere and it forms clouds cooling earth but sometimes causing flooding. Even natural events are warming earth and causing destruction. The sun has an increased magnetic field causing increases in earthquakes (more destruction), volcanoes (wow, great destruction), and sun spots. Lighting produces ozone near the surface (raising air pollution levels). The USA Mayor's have taken a stand and I believe are on the right track, we can have control and can have economic growth. The sun is available to produce energy, bring light to buildings and makes most of human’s fresh water. Composting is the answer to desertification. New dams are the answer to fresh water storage, energy and cooling earth by evaporation, we need many small ones all over (California needs 100 by 2012 and has not even started).

Remember knowledge is power and this information is very powerful. Humans have 50 trillion dollars worth of stuff that runs on cheep oil, natural gas, or coal. We need 20 Trillion Dollars worth of renewable energy over the next 10 years if we are to avoid a world wide depression (and right now ethanol does not count)!

That is why I founded CoolingEarth.org, a geoengineering web sight where you can learn more about earth, the atmosphere, and how to sustain life on earth’s surface.

  9. I keep wondering the same thing and posting similar questions.  I have come to the conclusion that there are several reasons:

    1.  the words "global warming" are misunderstood by many - the real words should be "climate instability" so people will get the right idea.  The snow in China is a part of climate instability.

    2.  People want to deny the reality because to accept the truth would require change which is so difficult for some.

    3.  People are so absorbed with their own personal worlds and lives that they can't look beyond there own immediate environment; hence, the argument that global warming doesn't exist because it is cold and snowing HERE.

    4.  Global warming has become too politicised.  People are lining up accepting or not accepting this truth based on their political alliance - very sad.

    5.  There is a true lack of common sense in the world. So many people want "proof" from some authoritative body of knowledge when all they have to do is open their eyes and look around and think a little into the future.

    6.  Never in the history of humankind have we had this current  population.  Modern society and the concommitant destruction of our environment for "progress" or development  is unprecedented.  How can we not think that we have played a part in the development of global warming.

Okay, well I've got to go to work now.

  10. Yes, it's climate change while global warming is the cause. If you wanted to muddy the waters then 'freak cold weather' and 'global warming' don't mix, for those without basic knowledge. It only shows Conservatives in thier true light, and once people are informed of thier shallow trickery it should backfire.

  11. China has been seeding there clouds. I saw it on the news. They are doing this to make sure the pollution in there air is cleaned out for the Olympics. They are doing it to themselves. It is a communist country the people have no say. The government does what it wants.

  12. You are correct: the question isn't whether or not global warming is occurring. It IS occurring. That's a scientific fact. the question is whether WE are the cause of global warming.

The answer: no, we are not, and we can do nothing about it. Mother nature is her own "woman." She listens to nobody (except God)

  13. It's simple. Big industries do not want you to believe that there is such a thing as man-made climate change. Why would they? Once it is proven beyond a doubt (Which I believe it already has been) they will be held liable for the destruction of our planet. They will do everything they can to debunk and deface the entire climate change theories.

  14. It was 60 degrees here in Pennsylvania yesterday.  Usually we're close to zero with snow coming out our butts, so yes, my eyes are wide open.  It's scary.

  15. We paid a high price for people to live in luxury look at china

and there coal powed stations 2 a week I think they build.

Where would we be without progress, living in the stone age.

Global warming IS A PROBLEM we need to recline the 6 billion that live on earth, mybe thought birht control.

  16. because the extreme weather has always been happening.  Why do people think that just because it is happening in their life, then its the first time it has happened?   That is so arrogant and childish!

What evidence do you have that extreme weather didnt happen before we spread through-out the world?

  17. There is no climate change, sorry.  The idea is interesting but nothing has ever been proven.  Here in Canada the main doomsayer is a guy named David Suzuki.  His lefty n**i tactics are alarming, especially when he says that any politicians who disagree with his point of view should be thrown in jail, which he said last week.  That's how the n**i's got in power..jail others with different views and burn their books.  Suzuki can't analyze anything really, and gets real scary when he opens his vile, stupid mouth.

Liberals and lefties have to wake up and realize they're being badly manipulated by a worldwide eco-n**i organization with political aims. You're falling for it just the way that Germany did in the 1930's.  Examine the arguments against global warming instead.  They are equally convincing and make far more sense.  The net is full of them too, but lefties and liberals are too afraid to search for them.
