Why doesn't the replacement part look like the part I pulled off the car?

These are pictures of 2 power steering pumps from a 1994 Nissan Sentra. 1.6 liter, 1N4 vin, manual trans.

The part on the left is what I pulled off the car, and the part on the right is the one I got from the salvage yard. The mounting bolts and belt wheels are in the same location but they just look really different.

(Other than the hose still being connected to slavage yard part on the right) The tag on the salvage yard part has the same specs as my car, I'm just not sure why the parts look different. My guess is the one on the left was a cheap replacement part and the one on the right was a factory part. I just want someone to confirm this.

  1. unfortunately, on cars production may change something about a car halfway through the year. i would go to a store and buy on e that is brand new, it will have a warranty and if it is not the right one you can exchange it for the correct part.

  2. auto parts are mad to fit a few different cars

so it will work in yours as well as others

  3. many time one part will have more than one type of car it fits... so if it fits where you want it it will work pictures its not the same the backing of one has four holes and one has three holes but id still try it and see if it fits

  4. Maybe it's made in China instead of Mexico?

I really don't know for sure..

  5. If the pump bolts up then go ahead and put it on, looking at your pics I think you will be just fine.

  6. It looks as if the pump is not even the same pump, looking at the pictures the hoses don't line up and looking at the mounting ring it looks smaller. picture one looks like the left side has a smaller pipe on it and picture 2 looks like the hose is curved so to me I think they miss marked the pump, if they say it's the right one have them show you. how the pump will fit with all the differences it has.

  7. Parts are often revised during the life cycle of the machine they go on. It's not uncommon for parts to be interchangeable but look markedly different.
