Why doesn't windows media player work?

Question

I recently downloaded a movie ( torrent) and the file style is .avi

The movie plays but I only see ( hear) the sound playing...I don't see any video or anything..only sound. The only thing I see is like the 'flashing lights' which go along with the music or sound when somethings playing..

I have windows vista..

Can anybody help and tell me how I can get the video to show?

its probably the video you downloaded

try getting downloading another .avi video and seeing if it works

It a missing codec.  I finally gave up tring to figure it out on on Media Player 10 (or 11) and use MP Classic.

For video and music file playing

Download VLC player it will do the lot
