Why doesn't wool burn?

I am doing a science experiment and need to know why wool in a fabric form (e.g. wool jumpers or teady bears) doesn't really burn?

  1. Wool is actually a protein fiber, as opposed to cotton,  which is cellulose.  That's what makes it less flammable.
