  1. Your right they should work if able to do so,but this is how the democrats get votes giving your hard earned money to those that are LAZY.

  2. Umm sophie...you must be uneducated.  Soup kitchens are for homeless people!

QUESTION: IF YOU LOST YOUR JOB, HAVE NO TRANSPORTATION, AND NO FAMILY OR FRIENDS TO HELP YOU...WOULD YOU NOT APPLY FOR PUBLIC ASSISTANCE?

Don't be ignorant and inconsiderate of other peoples problems.  If anything, the prison system should implicate some type of program for offenders.

  3. I think its a great idea.2 hours of work for the average check of $600.00. Man, that's like getting paid $300.00 an hour. Its a good idea. I'm all for it, besides maybe it would give some of them a sense of worth. I think one appreciates what they work for more than what is given to them for nothing. At the very least, they would become partially contributing members of society, instead of total users/losers.

We would still have to take into consideration, those who are truly not able to work.

Ed, its not 'slave labor' when you get paid for it.

  4. Wows Sounds Like you have America's problems all figured out. Run For Pres you'll be Great!

  5. I have a friend that used to teach 3rd grade in a border town in Texas, and he would make the free lunch kids stay after class and clean the classroom every day.  He was just trying to make sure that these kids appreciated what they were getting, and to try and teach them some responsibility, and break them from the welfare cycle early, but the administration made him stop, what a shame.  So I agree with your idea.  Earn your way, quit living off of the work of other people.

  6. Maybe picking up litter and such should be a goverment provided job. Seems like a good idea to me. Although it would be a low paying job.

  7. Democrats trade welfare payouts for electoral votes.

Socialism encourages the lazy and punishes the driven peoples of our society.

  8. Probably because the ACLU will get involved and spew their usual bs about peoples' rights. We should ask these people to earn the handouts they now receive, but asking people to be responsible is something the liberals have never considered. They'd just rather have someone else pay.

  9. Good idea but some would probably do crime before doing that...It would be a record keeping nightmare too....

  10. Good idea, but these people would refuse. Then what do you do? I think cities should hire them and pay for them to clean up the streets and other odd jobs and do away with the handouts.

I am very much against growing government so, the money used to pay them would come from the handouts they were getting. Maybe having some responsibility could set some of them straight, but I would imagine most of them would use their money to buy booze and drugs. Then we would have the same problem all over again. Some people are just beyond help.

  11. I've wondered that myself. There's plenty that needs to be done.

True, some people are handicapped and cannot work, but for those who can and either choose not to or are temporarily unemployed, I say make them earn it.

It's money that we've earned by working. Why should it be just handed over to someone who doesn't work?

If I was so destitute that I had to apply for welfare, I would want to work for it.

  12. Some people cannot work.

  13. Slave labor is prohibited in US.

    Haven't you heard?

  14. Sounds like a good idea to me but I am sure their would be some flak about it. Unforeseen consequences. I am a single parent and I have never received welfare or government handouts. Have you?

  15. There isn't a law to make people work...maybe there should be

  16. maybe because we are not the USSR!!

  17. I can't believe this isn't already in place.

This would really help welfare lose its 'free money' appeal.

There is a better solution, but I like this one because it actually stands a good chance of being put into action in the near future.

I bet I could even find tasks for people with major disabilities.

You know, those people who expect us to spend billions of dollars redesigning the world to accommodate them, and then sue us if we don't do it just right?
