I don't know his personal reasons. It's just part of his beliefs. He doesn't believe in drugs, drinking, or promiscuous s*x. I applaud him for all of that too. I live the same lifestyle he does.

Good job to you too for not drinking.

I don't mind when people drink as long as they don't become drunks and hurt others. I just like to play it safe.

No drinking. No drugs/smoking of any kind. He doesn't even take like prescribed drugs. And no promiscuous s*x. He is straight-edge because his father was an alcoholic (now sober) and he found out that being an alcoholic can be inherited so he chose to be straight-edge. He actually found out what straight-edge was by listening to the band Minor Threat, which is also the reason he has the Pepsi logo tattooed on his arm (the lead singer of Minor Threat has a tattoo of the Coke logo on his arm.)

The reason why cm punk does not drink is because he lives a "straight edge" lifestyle which basically means he can not drink alcohol, do any kind of drugs, and not be promiscuous (have s*x with several partners). To sum it up it is basically a squeaky clean lifestyle to keep himself healthy. Also notice how the tape on both his hands have an x on them. the "x" symbolizes his straightedge lifestlyle. I am sixteen also and my school in Los Angeles is the same way.

First of all, the Straight Edge character is not childish. His character is based on his ROH character who had an alcoholic father...and he doesn't want to be like him.

It's not childish, I very rarely drink myself, and I don't smoke at all. I don't drink for the same reason CM Punk's character doesn't. My father was an alcoholic who passed away from alcoholism. Alcoholism if you don't know, is a disease you get from being an alcoholic. When you drink way too much like alcoholics do, for a huge length of time, your body becomes dependent on the alcohol. My father's body was dependent on alcohol. When you have alcoholism, you can't just stop drinking anymore, because it could be fatal. My father decided he wanted to stop drinking...but he tried to stop flat out...just stop..his body couldn't handle it after a while..and he passed away.

So his Straight Edge character is anything but childish...because he had the same..and he doesn't want to be like his father just like I don't drink because of what happened to mine. Anybody who wants to say it's childish needs to grow up themselves and learn the whole story to his character first...
