Why doesnt Georgia just allow South Ossettia and Ahkazia go independent ?

Surely if they dont want to be part of Georgia, the logical thing would be to let them go ?

Kosovo is actually more contentious, because 100 years ago the majority of people there were Serbian. But due to ethnic cleansing, wars and illegal migration 90% of people there are now Albanian.

Ossetia was never Georgian, the people there were never Georgian. The Georgians that did live there were incomers and were unwanted by the indigenous people.

Georgia is a nationalistic state which oppresses non-Georgians. note that not only did the Ossetians and Abkhazians fight against the Georgians, but also the ethnic Armenians. Even the Chechens got involved in Abkhazia.

Time for Georgia to behave like a democracy and respect self-determination.

Russia will want to tightly control their independence so that they don't fall under western influence.  Russians are absolutely paranoid about the growth of Western European and American influence in states formerly under Soviet control.

Most of these states have turned to the West because of the cruelty and barbarity of Soviet domination - and this frightens the Russian oligarchy.

Really ? these ares belong to Georgia...if every little nation in most countries there are places that would like to be independent! do you know would happen? we would have 1000 countries!

very simple. for the same reason as russia on chechnya. china on tibet. usa on confederate.

why they want independent? they want freedom to do their own thing. and yes, the leader wants to be king at least to his own people who speak his language. since he can't be king to others. Tell me who after getting independ didn't become king of his own? all is the name of freedom. And the fools died for freedom in their own mind not knowing it's for him to be king.

That is a reasonable question after latest precedent we got with Kososvo.........why not? & why not for other 20  or more coutries all over the world? If we let one separate? Why is there a difference for others? What is the main point we base our dessision on when letting one contries separate & not letting others do the same? All that is going on right now in Goergia should've been predicted when a dessision about Kosovo was made! Now we get what we wanted, i guess....it's all part of a dirty political game.......

The fighting isn't about those regions as much as it about a power struggle between Russia and Georgia.  The fighting just happens to be in those areas as they are easily accessible to both sides and are a front to mask the real reasons behind the fighting, which is more ideological than it is about pieces of land.  South Ossetia was essentially independent before now anyway, just not officially.

It is not that simple.

Over the world is more than 20 regions which want independent.

I am from Republic Srpska which is part of Bosnia and Hercegovina.

We want independent RS but the USA and other western countries don't allowe that.
