Why doesnt my '95 Firebird stay running?

Fires up quickly, sounds great, but just reves and dies out?

  1. Bad fuel pump or spark plugs/wires. My bet would be on the fuel pump. My dad has a '96 Firebird and he had the same problem.


  2. Fuel pump relay. Same thing happened on my 1992 p/u truck.

    The relay allows the pump to run for 20-30 seconds during start and waits for an oil pressure signal to keep the engine running. If the relay is faulty (or there is no oil pressure signal) the car will die. Key it off then on and it will restart.

    Check the oil pressure sender connection. There is also a way to jumper out the relay to check its operation.
