Why doesnt my xbox 360 controller come up???

Question

hi i recently bouth a wired 360 controller(not the console) so i can play some games on my computer with it but when i first connected i had a bit of trouble installing the drivers but i finally got it saying the right drive but the thing is the controller wont come up as a controller in fact i cant even use it if someone could help it would be really a prciated please dont post the same insturtions that came on the windwos website because i have already tried that
