  1. It's a Constitutional Monarchy.

"In a monarchy a king or queen is Head of State. The British monarchy is known as a constitutional monarchy. This means that, while The Queen is Head of State, the ability to make and pass legislation resides with an elected Parliament. Although the British Sovereign no longer has a political or executive role, he or she continues to play an important part in the life of the nation.

As Head of State, The Queen undertakes constitutional and representational duties which have developed over one thousand years of history. In addition to these State duties, The Queen has a less formal role as 'Head of Nation'. She acts as a focus for national identity, unity and pride; gives a sense of stability and continuity; officially recognises success and excellence; and supports the ideal of public and voluntary service.

In all these roles The Queen is supported by members of her immediate family."

"As a system of government, constitutional monarchy has many strengths. One is that it separates out the ceremonial and official duties of the Head of State from party politics. Another is that it provides stability and continuity, since the Head of State remains the same even as governments come and go.

Constitutional monarchy is a form of government in which a king or queen acts as Head of State, while the ability to make and pass legislation resides with an elected Parliament.

The Sovereign governs according to the constitution - that is, according to rules, rather than according to his or her own free will.

Although the United Kingdom does not have a written constitution which sets out the rights and duties of the Sovereign, they are established by conventions. These are non-statutory rules which can bind just as much as formal constitutional rules.

As a constitutional monarch, The Queen cannot make or pass legislation, and must remain politically neutral. On almost all matters The Queen acts on the advice of ministers.

However, the Sovereign retains an important political role as Head of State, formally appointing prime ministers, approving certain legislation and bestowing honours.

The Queen also has official roles to play in other organisations, such as the Armed Forces and the Church of England.

Another is that it provides stability, continuity and a national focus, since the Head of State remains the same even as governments come and go."

  2. Well I think yo would mean why DIDNT the queens run countries since we all know that except for the third world countries, all countries are run by parliament. Either way, to answer your question it's because woman were looked down on and seemed uncable to run a country. There is of course always exceptions. Maria Antoinette was queen of France and even though technically she wasnt in charge, we all know she wore the pants during the french revolution.

  3. Following the deposition of Charles 1st by the Republican Oliver Cromwell and his son,  (the UK was a Republic for a few years), the monarchy was restored post Cromwells "The Restoration" and the UK became a Constitutional Monarchy (it still doesn't have a written constitution"). The limits of power of the Monarch were codified and the Monarch became the titular head of Government but the Prime Minister and Parliament became the defacto power. The German English Kings (the Georges) had some trouble with this and there was much animosity between the Kings and parliament.

Following the results of the French, American and later the Russian Revolutions the UK Royalty learned to keep their heads down and thereby their "heads firmly attached to their necks" (quote Prince Charles in address to joint houses of US Congress).  The tradition of cooperation between the UK Monarch and Parliament has been greatly enhanced recently by intelligent and informed Monarchs, such as Victoria, and the present Monarch as commenced and instilled in her training by her father and mother.

Queen Elizabeth is multilingual and makes a point of staying informed of affairs of state in the UK, the former Commonwealth and in world affairs. The Prime Minister keeps her informed and she probably gives her opinion on certain matters. Opinions she can not enforce, but all laws passed in Parliament must receive Royal assent or signature to become law.

  4. She only runs 'orsees

  5. because if she did, we would be mutated into giant hamsters :D ITS ALL TRUE!!!

  6. What, you mean now? Well, I suppose because Parliament wouldn't let her.

  8. Would you want any one of those inbred "royals" running your country? Especially the one wearing the outdated glasses and strange hats?

Why you people in England even put up with that royal baloney is beyond comprehension.

  9. Republicans are just complete homos.  The queen doesn't need to run the country... she gets people to do it for her and then they take all the blame.

If you are a republican from outside the UK.... mind your own business.

If you are a republican in the UK.... move to Ireland.  That way you stay in the British Isles but still live in a republic... the vast majority of britons want the monarchy to remain, so why should you even attempt to persuade us otherwise
