The answer is : I don't know.  maybe little kids thought beards are less friendly? Oh well he'd look bad w/ a beard. It would make sense though.

Great question. I have never thought of that obvious question. I never questioned that when I was kid. d**n, kids are so believing and naive. I am trying to envision Johnny Weismueller with a bushy beard. Impossible.

Your great question really drives home the point how most of are when very young and even later. Reality gets in the way of fantasy. So simplistic and naive and, I guess, a good thing until we learn better. Life is more exciting that way. Good for the imagination, lust for life and the mark of youth. I am not that way anymore.
