I have asked alot of people and nobody seems to have an answer. I can't think of any other pro league in any other sport that doesn't?

  1. becuse AFL made a rule that they only have the players number

  2. Because they want it to stay a team sport. No name is bigger then the team.

  3. This si Australia and in australia no one is more important than the team so everyone has a number to identify them and also to develop tradition and history around various players who have played in that number. Like someone else said.. i am fairly certain that the AFL did rule against players names and given the length of some of the names they would be so small you wouldnt be able to read them anyway.

  4. Because we know who they are by the number thay wear.

  5. The rugby codes don't have names on the jerseys apart from rep matches
