Question:

Why don't I feel like going to church anymore?

I'm a teenager, and supposedly a Catholic. I think this started when my brother stopped going to church. He's a year younger than I am, but he didn't find church interesting so he stopped.

Then a few months later I stopped going to church. I don't know why, but I just did. My dad doesn't go to church anymore either, because he works odd shifts so he doesn't have time.

My mom's the only one in my family that goes to church, and she says that the devil is causing us to not go to church. I want to know why I don't want to go to church anymore... I've just been apathetic about everything. I'm going into Grade 12 in two days and can't even find the will to get my school supplies ready.

Please help =\

You may find that your apathy is cured.

  2. I know exactly what you are going through. I was actually forced to go to Catholic  church. To me, it was very depressing. But then me, and a couple of friends got together and began a prayer group. There is no rule that you have to go to a certain church. As long as you pray because you want to worship Jesus, that is good enough! If you love Jesus, you are on the right track, and no one can say you are wrong. God bless you!

  3. it's a waste of time...

  4. I actually have a lot of friends who became apathetic with church when they were Catholics, too. I know a lot of nice Catholics who love God, but they frequently get discouraged when they realize that there is no power there - not really.

A religion that's worth much should be able to make me better. It should make me happy, driven, and kind. It should make me a better able to cope with my problems and a better friend and citizen. Following Jesus is all about power. It's supposed to be about the kind of power that rocked the world back in the apostles day.

It's there - and I'm experiencing it. It's life changing and worth everything I've ever been called to "give up." But I found that I had to go find it in the Bible myself!

If you want to know where to start, go here:

and also do the free podcasts from www.chr24.org. Make sure to listen to them in order.

I'll pray for you, Friend.  :-)

  5. You are at a point in life when people naturally start to distant themselves from their family.  It is part of becoming your own self.  Also apathy quite often is a symptom of frontal lobe development.  The frontal lobe has a growth spurt during ones adolescent years.  During this time the adolescent has trouble communicating on the same wave length as adults.  If your apathy is coupled with a sense of depression you might consider counseling.  Be careful of doctors who prescribe medicine as a cure all.  (I work with the elderly and the disabled in therapy programs)

    I wish you well.

  6. your just like me=D i stopped going too and my parents say the same stuff...

its normal we are growing up and not little kids anymore. we used to be forced to go etc but now we have our own free will to choose or not to go. come to think of it does god exsist? i think about it everyday because we only belive in god because we were taught that as kidz but what if we were in other countrys such as asia , we would grow up beliving in budda or isreal we woudl belive in muhamid or w/e

very hard for me to believe or not.

  7. Because you're lazy.

  8. It's a tough age to be. I can remember being so bored with life half way through 12 grade I thought my mind would explode. Just make your self get those school supplies ready, and the feeling passes. I think you will find you will "pep" up in a year or two.
